JSO officer arrested after inappropriately touching crime victim

A Jacksonville police officer was arrested Thursday on false imprisonment and assault charges. This was the 11th arrest of a JSO employee this year.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of JSO Officer John Burgos in a press conference.

Brian Key, director of personal and professional standards, said Burgos was on duty around 4 p.m. Wednesday when he was dispatched to a call and met with the victim of a crime.

After the initial investigation was completed, Burgos returned and met with the victim again, allegedly stating that he wanted to conduct another investigation.

According to JSO, while Burgos was alone with the victim, he did not allow the victim to leave the room and touched the victim without the victim’s consent.

After Burgos left the location, the victim reported the crime and detectives from the JSO Integrity Unit began an investigation, according to Key.

Based on the facts gathered by investigators, Burgos was arrested Thursday morning for false imprisonment.

“If you don’t see body cameras or you think something is wrong, you can always call us at the station and ask to speak to a supervisor,” Key said. “Everyone who works at JSO has responsibilities and a boss.”
